How Hackathons Helped a Student Land a Meta Internship

Galaxia Wu, a third-year Interaction Design student at Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada, shares how participating in hackathons played a crucial role in securing a product design internship at Meta. Initially feeling out of place, she soon found a passion for hackathons, attended and organized Hackville (her college's hackathon), and became an MLH Coach.

Galaxia's dedication caught the attention of a Meta recruiter while she was interning at Intuit. Her commitment to hackathons, networking efforts, and refined skills made her an attractive candidate.

The interview process involved multiple calls and design interviews. Despite her initial lack of VR experience, her ability to connect new concepts to familiar experiences impressed the interviewers, securing her the internship.
