It’s easy to get caught up in the details when thinking about networking. But at the end of the day, the people you want to talk to are, well, people too! Most of the time, they want you to succeed. Take a step back and revert to the basics: remember how to talk to someone you don’t know (yet).

👩‍💼 Professional Networking can feel like a minefield 💣. Ultimately, it's up to you to put your best foot forward and impress those around you. Here are our favourite tips:
  1. Perfect your elevator pitch. Curating a 30-second explanation of who you are and what you hope to accomplish can help you appear more confident.

  2. Active listening. Nodding your head, maintaining eye contact, and asking questions will help to set you apart.

  3. Don’t dominate the conversation. A key part of networking is learning from the other person. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and avoid interrupting or talking over them.

  4. Maintain relationships. Writing thank-you emails post-chat can help you stand out from the crowd. Additionally, contacting your connections at least once a year can keep the relationship from falling off.

🍀 Best of luck at your future networking events!

Don’t forget: the early bird gets the worm. Stick with us to make sure you’re ahead of the herd.
